Discovering God's Direction for Life

Can I Be Saved?

So, what’s the unbelievable?  It is UNBELIEVABLE that WE CAN BE SAVED. In spite of how sinful we are, in spite of the mistakes we make, in spite of the number of times that we have chosen wrong over right, in spite of it all, I can be saved! It truly is unbelievable; it shouldn’t be possible.
Why is the unbelievable true?  Because Jesus died for me while I was a sinner (Romans 5:8). I deserve damnation; I deserve punishment; I deserve death; I deserve hell. But he took my punishment; he died for me, and now his blood covers me. His blood covers my sin and makes me acceptable, makes me righteous.
How does the unbelievable happen?  ’If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that he was raised from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation’ (Romans 10:9-10). He promises a couple verses later ’whoever calls on him will be saved. So how does the unbelievable happen? We simply accept the free gift that he offers. We are sinful and separated from God, and we must die for our sin. Jesus, though, died in our place, as our substitute. If you surrender your life to him, repent (turn away) from your sin, and turn your life over to him, then your sin can be forgiven and he will adopt you as his child. Jesus offers you a free gift - will you receive it? He loves you - he really does - he died for you. Will you accept him as your Lord (Master) and Savior? It's really just a matter of surrender. What stops you from surrendering your life to him now?
